Creed Fined, Penalized Over Nashville Incident

Sheldon Creed was dealt a behavioral level penalty by NASCAR on Tuesday afternoon, following an on-track incident he was involved in during the Tennessee Lottery 250 at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway on Saturday.

Creed has been fined $25,000 and docked 25 driver points, moving him from seventh to eighth in the NASCAR Xfinity Series standings.

The moment in question occurred on lap 69 of the 196-lap race, when the Richard Childress Racing driver ran up the inside of Sammy Smith and intentionally turned into the right rear of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing entry. The contact sent Smith into the wall, with Creed also spinning his No. 2 Chevrolet as a result.

Creed crossed the line 17th, while Smith finished 34th.

Upon review, it was determined that Creed violated Sections 4.4B of the NASCAR Rule Book, which relates to the Member Code of Conduct.
