Brandon Jones will start from the pole in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Kansas Speedway.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver posted a fast qualifying lap of 174.695 mph around the 1.5-mile track to earn his third pole of the year and the sixth of his career.
His teammate, Ty Gibbs, qualified second with a speed of 174.520 mph.
The top five was completed by Sheldon Creed, AJ Allmendinger and Noah Gragson.
For Jones, it’s his second pole in the last two races after he started first last weekend at Darlington Raceway.
“Hats off to these guys, back-to-back poles, a lot of speed these last couple of weeks,” Jones said. “This is a good start here. … Looking forward to tomorrow’s race, man. Everyone knows this is a track and enjoy a lot. … See no reason why we go out here tomorrow and lead a bunch of laps.”
Kris Wright went for spin during his qualifying run. It happened in Turn 4 and Wight’s No. 68 Chevrolet backed lightly into the outside wall.
A few cars later, the No. 6 of Ryan Vargas spun exiting Turn 2. The right side of the car slammed into the inside wall.
Due to owner points, Wright will compete in Saturday’s race.
