INDIANAPOLIS — AJ Allmendinger, last year’s Verizon 200 NASCAR Cup Series winner at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, was the fastest driver in the only NASCAR Xfinity practice of the weekend.
Allmendinger turned a fast lap of 95.772 miles per hour around the 14-turn, 2.439-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on Friday in the No. 16 Chevrolet.
Austin Hill was second in the No. 21 Chevrolet at 95.524 mph. Alex Labbe’s No. 36 Chevrolet was third at 95.487 mph followed by Chevy driver Sheldon Creed’s 95.429 mph.
Chase Briscoe of nearby Mitchell, Ind., rounded out the top five in the No. 07 Ford at 95.436 mph.
After a brief break, NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifications are currently underway.
