CONCORD, N.C. — JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier turned the fastest lap during NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon.
He traveled the 1.5-mile oval in 29.906 seconds in his No. 7 Chevrolet. The 36-year-old is anxious to pick up JR Motorsports’ first win of the season during Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 300, provided it doesn’t rain out.
“It’s been disappointing as a company to not have a win between our four cars so far this season. It’s not been for lack of effort or lack of speed. It just seems like every time we get close, something happens,” Allgaier said. “You don’t work any less to run bad.”
Joe Gibbs Racing’s John Hunter Nemechek was close behind in second, with a fast lap of 29.959 seconds in his No. 20 Toyota. Ty Gibbs, who is making his first start in the Xfinity Series since graduating to the Cup Series, was third in his No. 19 JGR entry.
Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer turned the fourth fastest lap, while Brandon Jones was fifth in his No. 9 JR Motorsports entry.
Kyle Busch, Sheldon Creed, Sam Mayer, Jeb Burton and Chandler Smith completed the top 10.
