NASCAR Suspends Truck Crew Chief

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Chris Rice, crew chief for the No. 20 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team, has been fined $7,500 and suspended through Sept. 24.

Austin Dillon drove the NTS Motorsports Chevrolet to a third-place finish at Chicagoland Speedway, but NASCAR officials discovered the truck failed to meet body-height requirements during post-race inspection.

Because Rice was currently under probation through the end of the year from a P3 level penalty that occurred during a NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 15, the applicable Recurrence Multiplier as outlined in the rulebook can be used when assessing the severity of this penalty.

As a result Rice was fined $7,500 and suspended from NASCAR through Sept. 24. His NASCAR probation remains intact through Dec. 31.

Bob Newberry, owner of the No. 20 truck, has been penalized with the loss of 10 owner points.
