NASCAR Reinstates MWR’s Ty Norris

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR announced Thursday that it has reinstated Ty Norris, an executive with Michael Waltrip Racing.

Norris had been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR on Sept. 9 as part of the penalties assessed to MWR following the sanctioning body’s review of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Sept. 7 at Richmond Int’l Raceway.

The NASCAR veteran was serving as the spotter for MWR driver Brian Vickers during the event. After fellow MWR driver Clint Bowyer spun to bring out a caution, Norris ordered Vickers to come down pit road and give up positions on track to help teammate Martin Truex Jr. make the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

“I appreciate NASCAR’s action today and respect their position,” Norris said in a statement released by MWR. “I am focused forward and dedicated to the success of Michael Waltrip Racing and the continued growth of a sport that has been my home for the past 24 years.”

Norris remains on indefinite NASCAR probation.
