MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Zane Smith will drive the No. 51 Rick Ware Racing Ford at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway this weekend in the NASCAR Cup Series, the team announced Wednesday.
The news comes after full-time driver Cody Ware was arrested on Monday. Ware currently faces a felony charge.Â
Smith, last season’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, will be making his fourth career Cup Series start. In two Cup Series starts this season, Smith has a best finish of 13th at the season opening Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.Â
Currently, Smith races the No. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford in the Truck Series, where he sits second in points after six races. The 23-year-old has notched two victories this season at Daytona and Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.
