KANSAS CITY, Kan. — NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty will serve as the Grand Marshal for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway, the track announced Wednesday afternoon.
In celebration of the Petty Family’s 75th year in NASCAR, “The King” will say the most famous words in motorsports ahead of one of the most competitive events of the year.
“Few people carry as much of an esteemed and winning history in sports than Richard Petty,” said Kansas Speedway Track President Pat Warren. “It’s a genuine honor to have one of the most distinguished figures in all of NASCAR give the command to start engines prior to the AdventHealth 400.”
Petty’s legendary 35-year career continues to serve as the benchmark for greatness throughout all of motorsports. As the most successful driver in NASCAR history, the Level Cross, N.C. native has garnered the most wins (200), most poles (123), most wins in a season (27), most Daytona 500 wins (seven), most consecutive wins (10), most starts (1,185), and tied for the most championships with Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson (seven).
