After the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet failed pre-race inspection on Friday, William Byron will not be permitted to qualify with the rest of the NASCAR Cup Series field on Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
The No. 24 car passed inspection on the fourth go, but failed to pass the initial three times.
As such, Byron will be forced to start from the rear of the field during Sunday’s Verizon 200 at the Brickyard. He will also have to serve a pass-through penalty on pit road after completing the opening lap.
In addition, the No. 24 team has lost its car chief, Tyler Jones, and will lose pit stall selection on Sunday.
Byron is currently third in the point standings and leads the series with four wins this season.
