Rick Ware Racing driver Cody Ware will sit out this weekend’s NASCAR Cup race at the Charlotte Roval as a precaution as he continues to recover from the minor injury he suffered at Texas Motor Speedway two weeks ago.
He will be replaced in the No. 51 car by JJ Yeley.
Ware made the announcement on social media, where he cited the “extensive foot work” required for a road course event as part of his decision.
The driver injured his lower left leg when his No. 51 car got loose and slammed into the Turn 4 wall during the Texas playoff race, careened down pit road and almost impacted at an entrance to the garage before coming to a stop.
Ware was able to slowly climb out of his car, but he was put on a stretcher and taken to the infield medical center where he was treated and released.
Despite being on crutches, Ware competed in last weekend’s race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway where he finished four laps down in 32nd.

Davison Makes NASCAR Return
Former IndyCar driver James Davison is set to make his first NASCAR start of 2022 this weekend.
Davison, a native of Australia, will pilot the No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing with sponsorship from Rich Mar Florist.
Davison has three previous NASCAR Xfinity Series starts for JGR. He ran at Mid-Ohio in 2017 and Road America in both 2017 and 2018 with the team.
His last NASCAR start was the fall 2021 Talladega Cup race for Rick Ware Racing.
“I am excited to reunite with Joe Gibbs Racing and look to pickup where we left off in 2017 and 2018 together,” Davison said in a media release. “The Xfinity field looks stacked this weekend and can’t wait to get behind the No. 18 Rich Mar Florist Toyota GR Supra.”
Davison joins a field that will include IndyCar drivers Conor Daly and Marco Andretti making their NASCAR Xfinity Series debuts.
