Sam Mayer and JR Motorsports’ disqualification following Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway has been upheld by the National Motorsports Appeals Panel.
Mayer initially wheeled his JRM No. 1 Chevrolet to a 16th-place finish at the 2.66-mile superspeedway. However, the car failed post-race technical inspection due to the rear of the car measuring too low. The disqualification pinned Mayer to a last-place result in the United Rentals 250.
The three-member appeals panel determined after Wednesday’s hearing that the penalty would stand, stating: “The panel found that NASCAR used standard inspection procedures at Talladega Superspeedway on October 5, 2024, on the No. 1 NXS car and found Rule 14.17.3.2.2.2 in violation.” According to the NASCAR Rule Book, since the appeal concerned a race disqualification, the penalty cannot be appealed further.
Mayer, who is competing in the NASCAR Playoffs, remains 11th out of 12 drivers on the playoff grid, 13 markers below the cutline. The No. 1 team initially sat eighth in points, 10 above the cutline prior to the disqualification.
Mayer is the defending race winner at the series’ next stop at the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway ROVAL.
