SONOMA, Calif. — Joey Logano beat out Tyler Reddick to earn the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. Logano earned the 31st pole of his career and his second at Sonoma with a time of 73.273 seconds (97.771 mph) in the final 10-minute round of qualifying.
“I think we were pretty good, so I’m looking forward to the race,” Logano said in a press conference. “I think the last time we got the pole here, I think it was 15 years ago or so. It was a long, long time ago with a lot of races in between, so it feels good to at least be starting back up front here.
“It’s nice to have a practice yesterday and to be able to work on your car, but even more importantly to have the time last night to review a lot and talk about it and think about it to try to make some good decisions for today and for tomorrow.”
Reddick’s front-row draw is his ninth top-10 start of the 2024 season and his fourth in as many races in wine country. Logano’s Team Penske teammate, Ryan Blamey, will start third after running out of fuel from the lead last weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway. Hendrick Motorsports drivers Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson round out the top five.
Larson slapped a tire barrier in Turn Four during his first run in the final round of qualifying. He suffered what seemed to be just cosmetic damage and returned to post his top-five lap.
HMS’ William Byron will start sixth with Daniel Suarez in seventh, Alex Bowman in eighth, Ross Chastain in ninth and Ty Gibbs in 10th.
Supercars stars Will Brown (Richard Childress Racing) and Cam Waters (RFK Racing) will start 24th and 31st, respectively. Brown placed third in practice on Friday.
Last week’s winner, Austin Cindric, will start 28th.
Sunday’s race is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.
