Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson will start Sunday’s Food City Dirt Race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway from pole position.
The No. 5 Chevrolet driver drove to victory in the third of four Cup Series heat races at the .533-mile track on Saturday night, which took place of the typical qualifying sessions. Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon will join Larson on the front row.
Dillon wheeled his No. 3 RCR Chevrolet to win the first heat race, with 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell completing the top three. Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney captured the victory in the second heat, narrowly beating Stewart-Haas Racing’s Chase Briscoe and Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron to the checkered flag.
Larson earned five passing points in the third heat race, as he moved his way up from sixth to take the lead. Stewart-Haas Racing’s Ryan Preece and Rick Ware Racing’s J.J. Yeley filed in behind the No. 5.
23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace beat RCR’s Kyle Busch to the finish line in the fourth heat, with Team Penske’s Austin Cindric coming in third. Dirt late model driver Jonathan Davenport, who is making a special Cup Series appearance with Kaulig Racing this weekend, finished fourth.
The 250-lap Food City Dirt Race will take the green at 7 p.m. (ET) on Sunday.
