Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson led NASCAR Cup Series practice at Phoenix Raceway on Friday night, turning in a 27.427-second lap at 131.258 mph.
Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney finished second in his No. 12 Ford with a 27.459-second, 131.105 mph lap.
Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman, Team Penske’s Joey Logano and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Chase Briscoe completed the top five.
The winningest driver at Phoenix Raceway, Kevin Harvick, finished ninth in practice.
Series points leader Ross Chastain ended practice in 26th.
The 50-minute session served as the debut for NASCAR’s new aero package, which will be featured on some short ovals and all road courses this season.
