Kyle Larson carried over momentum from Friday night’s practice to earn pole position during Saturday’s NASCAR Cup Series qualifying session at Phoenix Raceway.
Larson recorded a 27.642-second lap at 130.237 mph in his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports entry.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin will start Sunday’s race from the outside of the front row, placing second with a fast lap of 27.707 seconds at 129.931 mph in his No. 11 Toyota.
Last week’s winner William Byron qualified third in his No. 24 Chevrolet. RFK Racing’s Brad Keselowski and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell completed the top five. Series points leader and Trackhouse Racing driver Ross Chastain qualified sixth.
Michael McDowell, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Busch and Erik Jones rounded out the top 10.
The United Rentals Work United 500 will take the green at 3:30 p.m. (ET) on March 12 at Phoenix Raceway.
