Kurt Busch will miss Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series’ M&M’s Fan Appreciation 400 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway.
Busch announced on social media that this is due to “concussion-like symptoms” after his involvement in a single-car wreck yesterday during qualifying.
“NASCAR has done a great job of putting the drivers’ health before competition and I respect the decision they have made. I’m still having concussion-like symptoms from yesterday’s impact in qualifying. The tests demonstrate I am still recovering. I will continue to follow the medical team’s recommendations, and appreciate everyone’s’ support. Thanks to 23XI and their efforts, let’s get back on track in Indy!”
NASCAR released a statement: “This morning, Kurt Busch met with doctors in the infield care center for further evaluation following his accident during yesterday’s qualifying session. Following the evaluation, Kurt Busch has not been cleared to race in today’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Pocono Raceway.”
23XI Racing will call up NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Ty Gibbs to pilot the No. 45 Toyota at Pocono.
Gibbs finished second in yesterday’s Xfinity Series race at the Tricky Triangle.
Busch currently sits 14th in the standings, after winning at Kansas back in May. A NASCAR spokesperson has confirmed that Busch will receive a playoff waiver if he qualifies for the postseason.
