FORT WORTH, Texas — After months of teasing on social media, two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso and seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson have confirmed plans for a ride swap.

Alonso will take a turn at one of Johnson’s No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets and Johnson will drive Alonso’s McLaren F-1 entry at the Bahrain Int’l Circuit on Nov. 26, one day after the season-ending Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Johnson and Alonso have been promoting the ride swap for months by posting short teaser videos on each of their social media accounts. It will be the first time Alonso has driven a stock car and the first time Johnson has steered a Formula One car.

Alonso is retiring from Formula One competition at the end of the season and has not announced any full-season plans for 2019, though, he is scheduled to take part in the World Endurance Championship Super Season with Toyota next year.

McLaren was previously involved in a NASCAR/Formula One driver swap in 2011 when Tony Stewart and Lewis Hamilton traded rides at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) Int’l.
