Chicago Street Race Resumes After Weather Delay

CHICAGO — The NASCAR Cup Series race in the streets of Chicago has resumed after a weather delay of approximately one hour and 45 minutes. Ty Gibbs led when the race was stopped after 25 laps.

Rain dampened the racing surface just before the start of the race, but most teams elected to stay on slicks. But after Justin Haley crashed on lap 17, the skies opened up and standing water began to fill parts of the race track.

On a restart after the Stage One break, Chase Briscoe skidded into the turn six tire barrier and clipped Shane van Gisbergen, sending him into the fence. Van Gisbergen will not be able to continue.

Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson, Justin Haley — who stayed out at the stage break — and Tyler Reddick were inside the top five.

NASCAR has stated that the stop time Sunday is 8:20 p.m. local time. Lap 38 is an official race. Restarts will be single file until further notice.
