Almirola Suffers Fractured Vertebra In Kansas Crash

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Aric Almirola suffered a compression fracture to his T5 vertebra during a crash in Saturday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway.

Almirola, driver of the No. 43 Ford for Richard Petty Motorsports, was involved in a three-car crash during Saturday’s Go Bowling 400 along with Joey Logano and Danica Patrick.

Almirola had to be cut from the car and was airlifted to the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was released from the hospital Sunday morning and will fly back to his home in Mooresville, N.C., later in the day.

Almirola is mobile and will follow-up with his doctors in Charlotte, N.C., this week. It is unknown at this time if he will compete during Monster Energy All-Star Race weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
