CONCORD, N.C. – Rain that hit Charlotte Motor Speedway just minutes after the conclusion of NASCAR Xfinity Series practice Friday forced the cancellation of NASCAR Camping World Truck Series qualifying.
As such, the starting lineup reverted back to the performance matrix used for the majority of the COVID-19 pandemic, expanding to include all 38 trucks in attendance and putting Todd Gilliland on the pole.
LINEUP: North Carolina Education Lottery 200
Gilliland earned the pole with a metric score of 2.75, factoring in his win from Circuit of The Americas last time out, the fastest lap from that event and his sixth place seeding in the current owner standings.
Lap speed is weighted at 15 percent, previous race finish at 25 percent for the driver and owner results and owner points position at 35 percent to calculate the final metric score.
Sheldon Creed will join Gilliland on the front row, with practice leader Austin Hill and point leader John Hunter Nemechek sharing row two of the starting grid. Two-time season winner Ben Rhodes starts fifth.
Zane Smith, Tyler Ankrum, Grant Enfinger, rookie Carson Hocevar and three-time series champion Matt Crafton closed the top-10 starters.
Notables buried deeper in the field include Hailie Deegan (12th), Johnny Sauter (14th), Christian Eckes (22nd), Chandler Smith (23rd) and Timothy Peters (29th).
Making his return to the Truck Series for the first time this year, Ty Majeski starts 31st in a fifth entry for ThorSport Racing.
Trey Hutchens III, the final starter in the 38-truck field, will race for the first time this season after four previous DNQs – largely due to the lack of practice and qualifying because of COVID-19 procedures.
The green flag for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET.
Live coverage of the 10th race of the Truck Series season can be found on FOX Sports 1, the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
