With two laps to go under the lights at Texas Motor Speedway, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win went down to the wire in a thrilling four-car battle for the lead on Friday night.
Veteran driver Kyle Busch led the pack around the 1.5-mile oval in the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, with Corey Heim, Nick Sanchez and last week’s race winner Christian Eckes in tow.
In the No. 11 TRICON Garage Toyota, Heim gave Busch a run for his money when the white flag came out, drawing close to Busch’s rear bumper as the two entered turn three for the final time.
But it wasn’t enough, and Busch breezed to the checkered flag, collecting his sixth win at Texas in the Truck Series and 19th overall victory at the Fort Worth facility. By doing so, he tied Todd Bodine for the most all-time Truck Series wins (six) at the track.
The two-time Cup Series champion led 112 of 167 laps, ultimately finishing .112 seconds ahead of Heim.Â
“He (Busch) does such a great job aero blocking. I had a couple runs, here and there. It was pretty single lane tonight. You could make a run in the second groove on older tires, but with all of the throttle time we had — wide open — it was hard to make a lane change and gain momentum,” Heim explained. “Track position was the biggest thing, but he did a great job too.
“You can’t take anything away from him — he’s one of the greatest of all time.”
Sanchez and Eckes filed into the top four. Zane Smith, Daniel Dye, Taylor Gray, Tanner Gray, Stefan Parsons and Ty Majeski completed the top 10 at the SpeedyCash.com 250.Â
