Eckes Paces Truck Series Practice At Sonoma

ThorSport Racing’s Christian Eckes was fastest in Friday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series practice session at Sonoma Raceway.

Eckes and the No. 98 Toyota posted a top speed of 88.401 mph. Eckes recorded a total of 17 laps around the 1.99-mile, 11-turn road course during the 50-minute session, which represented the first track time for the series at Sonoma since 1998.

The top five was completed by Alex Bowman (88.252 mph), who is driving the No. 7 truck for Spire Motorsports, Ross Chastain (88.251), Matt DiBenedetto (88.062) and Parker Kligerman (87.933).

Seventh on the chart was the No. 42 Niece Motorsports Chevrolet. The truck was piloted by both its regular driver, Carson Hocevar, and relief driver Daniel Suarez, who combined for 21 laps during the session.

Hocevar made laps to see how he would manage after he broke the tibia near his right ankle in a wreck last weekend at Gateway.

Hocevar To Attempt Sonoma Weekend With Broken Tibia

None of the 39 drivers entered this weekend have made a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Sonoma Raceway, but eight of the drivers entered this weekend have made NASCAR Cup Series starts at Sonoma — Todd Bodine, Kyle Busch, Bowman, Chastain, DiBenedetto, Austin Dillon and Kligerman.
