Starr Joins Obaika For Talladega Cup Series Attempt

David Starr will attempt to qualify for Sunday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race while driving for Obaika Racing.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – David Starr has joined Obaika Racing to drive the No. 97 VroomBrands Toyota Camry in an attempt to qualify for the 500 at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend.

Should Starr and the No. 97 team qualify for the race, it would mark Obaika Racing’s first start in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

“I’m very excited to be racing Talladega Superspeedway in the No. 97 Toyota,” said Starr. “I’ve had some great runs there in the Trucks and the Xfinity Series, and I can’t thank Victor (Obaika, team owner) enough for bringing me on board for his debut as a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series owner.”

Starr has made more than 400 starts across NASCAR’s top three series, with four wins in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He’s made eight Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series starts during his career, with a best finish of 27th at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2011.
