NASCAR’s Premier Series Finally Gets A Name

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Officials from NASCAR revealed the new name and logo for the NASCAR premier series on Monday afternoon.

NASCAR’s premier series will now be known as the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

NASCAR officials also revealed a new logo for the overall NASCAR sanctioning body, the first new logo for the sanctioning body since 1976. It is the fifth different logo utilized by NASCAR during the organizations existence.

The new NASCAR logo has been in development since early 2016 as part of a broader effort to refresh the NASCAR brand.

“Our new NASCAR mark is modern, timeless, and embraces the heritage of our sport,” said Jill Gregory, NASCAR senior vice president and chief marketing officer. “It was important for us to recognize our history and implement a piece of each previous mark in the new design. Our goal was to evolve the sport’s visual identity to make it concise, relevant and functional, while respecting and maintaining the unique qualities of the original mark.”

Monster Energy and NASCAR announced a multi-year agreement on Dec. 1 for Monster Energy to take over entitlement sponsorship of NASCAR’s premier series beginning in 2017.
