AVONDALE, Ariz. — According to published reports by ESPN.com, Kevin Harvick will leave Richard Childress Racing following the 2013 season to join Stewart Haas Racing.
Harvick has driven for RCR during his entire Sprint Cup career, which began suddenly in 2001 when Dale Earnhardt was killed in a last-lap crash during the Daytona 500. He is under contract with RCR through 2013.
Harvick, a two-time NASCAR Nationwide Series champion and the 2007 Daytona 500 winner, has reportedly already signed a contract with Stewart Haas Racing. He would presumably become a teammate to team co-owner Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman and Danica Patrick.
Newman’s contract, however, expires at the end of 2013.
Stewart declined to address the situation directly during his media availability Friday at Phoenix Int’l Raceway.
“I will tell you this, when we have something to tell you guys, we’ll tell you,” Stewart said. “I’ve always said that. You guys can throw darts, but when we have something to tell you that’s different than what we’ve got going on, we’ll obviously tell you.”
