CONCORD, N.C. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina have come on board with Charlotte Motor Speedway to serve as sponsor of the upcoming NASCAR Nationwide Series race at the 1.5-mile facility on Oct. 10.

The three-year partnership will be focused on raising awareness of breast cancer prevention, detection and treatment. The race will be known as the Drive for the Cure 300 Presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

“Today I’m really pleased that I can announce that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina are coming on board to be our sponsor of the Drive for the Cure 300 presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina,” said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. “It is going to be exciting to go forward and to really do more together. Speedway Motorsports, our parent company, and Charlotte Motor Speedway have been a customer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield for quite some time. They are a fantastic service provider and we’re really proud to have them on board as a sponsor as well.”

Following the official announcement breast cancer survivors in attendance were invited on to pit road, where they helped paint the pit road wall pink to help kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

“There is really no better way for us to show our commitment to North Carolinians as well as breast cancer awareness and prevention then to sponsor a race and to name it the Drive for the Cure 300 presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina,” said Reagan Greene Pruitt, director of brand marketing and management for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

“Racing is core in who we are as North Carolinians and to be able to connect the passion of racing, the North Carolina heritage and breast cancer awareness and prevention, that is truly a powerful combination,” said Pruitt.
