HOMESTEAD, Fla. – ThorSport Racing has signed imminent NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Matt Crafton and teammate Johnny Sauter to contract extensions.
ThorSport has also signed Crafton’s sponsor Menards to a multi-year contract extension.
Crafton has opened a 46-point lead Ty Dillon, and thus only has to take the green flag for Friday’s Ford EcoBoost 200 at the 1.5-mile high-banked oval to clinch his and ThorSport’s first NASCAR national series championship.
The 2014 Truck Series campaign will mark the 10th consecutive year that Crafton, who owns the series’ record for consecutive starts, 315, going into Friday’s season finale, will drive the No. 88 Menards truck for ThorSport, and his 13th overall for the team based in Sandusky, Ohio.
“Matt’s consistency and competitiveness at a very high level epitomizes what ThorSport is all about,” team owner Duke Thorson said. “We’re pleased to keep Matt and Menards together moving into the future and look forward to their continued success.”
Sauter has signed a multi-year contract extension with ThorSport Racing that will keep the pilot that’s won nine races in his five years with ThorSport in owners Duke and Rhonda Thorson’s No. 98 Toyota Tundra.
In 2013 Sauter won the first two races of the season at Daytona and Martinsville and led the championship after the first three races. In 2014 Sauter will split time with a variety of color schemes on his No. 98 Tundras representing Nextant Aerospace, Curb Records and Carolina Nut Co.
“Johnny Sauter has been an important part of the success of ThorSport for the last five years,” Duke Thorson said. “With Matt Crafton’s Truck Series championship, Frank Kimmel’s ARCA title and getting Johnny re-signed we have a lot to look forward to in 2014.”
