ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico — Bryce Menzies, Gustavo ‘Tavo’ Vildsola Jr. and Andy McMillin captured the 56th SCORE Baja 1000 presented by K&N.
The grueling endurance race began on Thursday in La Paz, Baja California Sur, and finished in Ensenada, Baja California, on Friday. Drivers covered 1,310.94 miles in the SCORE World Desert Championship season finale.
In the No. 7 Red Bull Ford Raptor trophy truck, Menzies and his team finished the iconic race with a two-minute, three-second margin over Luke McMillin (Andy’s younger cousin) and Rob MacCachren. Menzies, Vildsola and McMillin covered the course in 22 hours, 25 minutes and 33 seconds.
It was Menzies’ third crown jewel win of the SCORE season, as he also won the San Felipe 250 and Baja 500 earlier this year. His latest victory allowed him to pick up the SCORE Trophy Truck championship.
“This one feels really special. It’s taken me 12 years to win the SCORE Baja 1000 and to win the second-longest SCORE race in history, it feels pretty special,” Menzies said at the finish line. “I had a very smooth first section, with no flats or anything, Andy had one flat in his part but did a great job too and Tavo went through San Felipe and all the bumps and the cold weather.”
While MacCachren and Luke McMillin finished second in the No. 1 Chevy 1500, Mike Walser, Christopher Polvoorde and Ray Griffith claimed third in the No. 89 Chevy Silverado. Both cars were built by Mason Motorsports.
