JEREZ, Spain — MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia completed a nail-biting final two circuits with a victory in Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix at the Jerez Circuit.
The Ducati Lenovo Team rider held off a valiant late-race challenge from Sprint Race winner Brad Binder, who brought his Red Bull KTM machine home second, .221 seconds behind Bagnaia.
With the victory, Bagnaia seized a 22-point lead in the standings over previous point leader Marco Bezzecchi, who crashed his Mooney VR46 machine earlier in the contest.
With his second-place effort, Binder moved to third in the standings.
Jack Miller rounded out the podium on the second Red Bull KTM machine.
Jorge Martin (Pramac Racing) and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) rounded out the top five.
