JEREZ, Spain – Fifteen-year-old motorcycle racer Dean Berta Viñales died from injuries suffered in a crash Saturday at the Circuito de Jerez.
Berta Viñales is the cousin of MotoGP veteran Maverick Viñales.
The crash occurred 11 laps into the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship race during the Motul Spanish round of the Superbike World Championship weekend when three riders collided.
Berta Viñales suffered severe head and thoracic injuries. Medical vehicles arrived at the site immediately and the rider was attended to on track, but he did not survive.
The remainder of the day’s on-track action was cancelled.
Earlier this season, 14-year-old Spanish motorcycle racer Hugo Millan was killed in a crash at Spain’s MotorLand Aragon.
