Haiden Deegan was dealt two penalties by the AMA for his actions during the Monster Energy AMA Supercross event at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala., on March 9.
First, the Star Racing Yamaha rider was docked two positions for cutting the track during the 250SX main event, which adjusted his official score from seventh to ninth.
Secondly, the AMA fined Deegan $1,000 for a code of conduct violation.
That penalty was related to “unsportsmanlike conduct” during the heat race and afterwards, when he walked to the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki pit area following the race to verbally express his heated opinions.
The incident during the heat race was between Deegan and Seth Hammaker.
The two came together in the first turn, with their bikes tangling as they both fell to the ground. While the two were working to separate their 250cc machines, Deegan yelled and made several hand motions at Hammaker. He also pushed Hammaker’s Kawasaki bike back down to the ground before mounting his own No. 38 Yamaha and taking off.
In his latest Instagram post, Deegan wrote, “Night didn’t go as planned. I will always ride with heart, I’m sorry the emotions got the best of me tonight, now back to work and I’ll see you in Indy!”
Deegan is ranked fourth in points in the 250SX East standings.
