Ferrandis To Miss Tampa Supercross After Houston Crash

Star Racing Yamaha’s Dylan Ferrandis will miss the upcoming round of Monster Energy AMA Supercross competition at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., due to the series’ concussion protocol.

The Frenchman brought last weekend’s main event to a complete halt at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, with a hard fall that left him temporarily unconscious. After landing on the back of Ken Roczen’s Suzuki RM-Z450, Ferrandis was torn from his No. 14 Star Racing Yamaha machine and hit the ground headfirst.

The Alpinestars medical crew rushed to the rider and the red flag waved when Ferrandis remained unresponsive.

Several minutes later, Ferrandis regained consciousness and stood with the help of the medical crew. His head was stabilized with a neck brace before he was carted off the track for further medical examination.

“Unfortunately, it’s part of the sport, but to see one of your guys crash the way Dylan did and to see him lying there was pretty tough,” said Jeremy Coker, Star Racing Yamaha team manager. “Fortunately, when I got to him, he was able to open his eyes and looked at me and said my name, and it was a huge relief to see him stand up and walk away.”

On Monday, Star Racing Yamaha confirmed on Instagram that Ferrandis had suffered a concussion in the crash. The team noted he will be following “the protocols set in place prior to returning to racing.”

On Tuesday, Ferrandis supplied additional information on his Instagram, adding that “everything feels fine now besides headache.” He also announced he will be sitting out Tampa Supercross due to concussion protocol.

“I hope to be back for Oakland (Feb. 18),” Ferrandis wrote

So far, Ferrandis has recorded fourth-, sixth-, fifth- and 21st-place finishes this season. He was the 2021 AMA Pro Motocross 450 champion and has collected two 250SX West championships throughout his Supercross career.
