Colt Nichols will miss the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season opener at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., due to a rotator cuff injury.
The Oklahoma native announced the news via Instagram on Thursday night.
He was originally set to be part of Beta’s first foray into the sport as one of two riders on the Liqui Moly Beta Supercross team. However, the No. 45 rider will now be sidelined for the Jan. 6 opener. His return date is uncertain.
“I’m very disappointed to not be lining up this weekend for the season opener at A1. Not sure on a timetable for return as I’m week to week and day to day but as soon as I know I’ll update,” Nichols noted.
John Short will fill in for Nichols aboard the No. 199 steed.
Meanwhile, Benny Bloss will forge ahead as the second 450cc class rider on the Beta USA team.
