Jason Anderson ended Chase Sexton’s streak and stole the top spot in qualifying for Saturday’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross Triple Crown event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The strong qualifying performance was a minor rebound for the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider who finished fifth at last weekend’s race at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland, Calif.
Sexton was sitting pretty on top of the timesheets for a majority of the second session with a 46.423-second lap time. However, a flurry of fast laps hit in the final two minutes, as Anderson climbed to third on the board and H.E.P. Motorsports’ Ken Roczen beat Sexton’s fast time with a 46.335-second lap.
Anderson stole the show on the final lap as he traveled the track in 46.280 seconds.
“Track’s a little harder base than what we’ve raced on the previous rounds. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do on it,” Anderson said on Race Day Live. Anderson’s last fast qualifier award came last year at the season finale in Salt Lake City, Utah, on May 7. He went on to win the race that night.
Roczen held strong to finish second in qualifying, Sexton was third and Star Racing Yamaha’s Eli Tomac was fourth.
Red Bull KTM’s Cooper Webb qualified fifth.
