World Superbike Finale Cancelled

LUSAIL, Qatar – Following a severe rain and sand storm on Saturday morning in Qatar, World Superbike officials have chosen to cancel the season finale at the Losail Int’l Circuit.

“Following the World Supersport race, the safety commission (FIM, Dorna WSBK Organization and SBK riders) met,” series officials said in a statement. “Due to an increase of standing water, as well taking into account the difference between power and tyres of WorldSBK and WorldSSP bikes, this led us to decide racing would not be safe in these conditions.”

The cancellation prevents Jonathan Rea from breaking the single-season points record as well as the single-season win record. Rea equalled the single-season win record with his 17th victory on Friday and will finish the season with 545 points, 12 points shy of matching the points record.

Chaz Davies will end the season second in the World Superbike standings, followed by Michael van der Mark in third.
