LEICESTERSHIRE, England – Tom Sykes scored his first double triumph in Eni FIM Superbike World Championship competition Sunday at Donington Park.
The English native drove a pair of perfect races aboard his Kawasaki to complete a dream weekend that pulled him to within four points of the series championship lead.
In race one Sykes was untouchable, leading all 23 laps to score a dominating victory. Marco Melandri clawed his way back to second place after a successful overtake move in the last turn, on lap 16, over Sylvain Guintoli.
In race two Sykes pulled away from the chasing pack in the early stages and managed a seven second lead up to the checkered flag, finishing ahead of the works Aprilia duo of championship leader Guintoli and Eugene Laverty.
