Snow Stops Assen World Superbike Race

ASSEN, Netherlands – A snow storm shortly before the start of Saturday’s World Superbike race at TT Circuit Assen has forced officials to postpone the race.

The race, set to start at 2 p.m. local time, was moments away from starting when it began to snow. Officials waited to see if conditions were going to improve, but the snow kept falling and officials opted to postpone the first race of the weekend.

Weather permitting, World Superbike riders will be back on track Sunday to close out the weekend at TT Circuit Assen. Event officials have chosen to cancel the planned Superpole race scheduled for Sunday, replacing it with Saturday’s postponed event.

Earlier in the day prior to the snow, Álvaro Bautista earned his third-straight Superpole by besting local favorite Michael van der Mark and Markus Reiterberger.
