IMOLA, Italy – Jonathan Rea established the fastest time during a pair of World Superbike practice sessions Friday afternoon at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.
A fire in the adjoining park close to the circuit brought out the red flag after only seven minutes. When the session resumed virtually all of the riders improved, with Rea leading the standings over Tom Sykes and Marco Melandri. Unfortunately another red flag with 12 minutes left in the session meant another short stoppage before the session could finally resume.
Eventually with the stoppage reaching almost 45 minutes, the decision was made to cancel the on track activity for the day.
As a result, Rea’s 1:48.147 lap time ended the day as the fastest lap. Sykes, Melandri, Sylvain Guintoli and Davide Giugliano completed the top five.
The fastest EVO rider was BMW Motorrad Italia’s Leon Camier, who was 10th overall.
Giugliano was fastest in the morning session, followed by Rea, Guintoli, Chaz Davies and Melandri.
