CESENA, Italy – Nicky Hayden remains hospitalized in Italy after being struck by a car while riding a bicycle on Wednesday.
Fake news reports had been circulating Friday afternoon indicating Hayden had died, but the Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team released a statement confirming that Hayden was still alive and in the intensive care unit at Maurizio Bufalini Hospital in Italy.
“The clinical picture of Nicky Hayden remains unchanged. His condition is still extremely critical. He is still in the intensive care unit of Cesena’s Maurizio Bufalini Hospital and the prognosis stays reserved,” the team said in the statement Friday afternoon.
In addition, according to a story by John Ulrich on RoadRacingWorld.com where he spoke with Hayden’s father Earl, Nicky Hayden was never in an induced coma.
The 36-year-old Kentucky native was training on his bicycle when he was hit by a car between Tavoleto and Riccione, south of the resort town of Rimini on Wednesday.
