Jonathan Rea Keeps Hot Streak Alive

ALCANIZ, Spain – Jonathan Rea survived a battle with Chaz Davies to win Saturday’s World Superbike event at Motorland Aragon to score his fifth-straight victory to start the season.

Rea spent most of the race chasing the Ducati of Davies, but things turned around for Rea on the penultimate lap when Davies crashed out of the race. That handed the lead and the victory to Rea, who now sits 47 points ahead of his Kawasaki teammate Tom Sykes in the World Superbike standings.

Marco Melandri, Davies’ teammate at Racing – Ducati, was promoted to second as a result of Davies’ crash. Sykes finished a solid third to help him move up to second in the World Superbike standings.

Alex Lowes finished fourth for the Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team, with his teammate Michael van der Mark completing the top-five.

Spaniard Jordi Torres was sixth for the Althea BMW Racing Team, followed by Leandro Mercado, Eugene Laverty, Stefan Bradl and American Nicky Hayden.

Xavi Fores was forced to retire late int eh race when a technical problem on his Ducati Panigale R caused it to catch fire. Earlier in the race he crashed while battling Sykes for fourth, but remounted and continued the race until the fire ended his day.
