IMOLA, Italy – Chaz Davies put Racing – Ducati atop the speed charts during World Superbike practice on Friday at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.

Davies’ best time of 1:46.229 game him the fastest lap of the day over the Kawasaki Racing Team pair of Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes.

“This morning we weren’t too comfortable out there, but we changed a few things in terms of tires and setup in FP2, which allowed us to make a good step forward,” said Davies, who swept the World Superbike races at the Italian track in 2016. ‘We set a good lap time, but the most important thing is our pace on used tires, which is really close to our best lap, even though we still have a couple of areas to improve. To race here in Italy, so close to Ducati’s headquarters, is special. Our supporters give us an extra motivation to do well.”

The top five on the timesheet also featured local favorite and Davies’ teammate Marco Melandri and and Spaniard Xavi Fores. Ducati-equipped Fores had two similar crashes on Friday, one in FP1 and the second in the afternoon session, tucking the front end in turn two.

Also making it straight through to Tissot Superpole 2 on Saturday courtesy of their times on Friday were Alex Lowes, Leon Camier, Michael van der Mark, Leandro Mercado and Eugene Laverty.

Just missing out on automatic Superpole 2 entries were Jordi Torres and American Nicky Hayden, who crashed in the first practice earlier in the day.
