Plane Crash Claims Racer, Owner Jon Couch


ALTON, Va. – Jon Couch, the owner of AMA Pro Road Racing team TOBC Racing, was killed Friday in a plane crash at Virginia Int’l Raceway.

Couch, 46, was piloting his high-performance propeller plane at VIR Friday afternoon and performing various stunts around the facility before crashing near the Patriot Course at the VIR road course. Couch and an unnamed passenger were both killed in the crash.

Couch holds CCS, WERA and AMA Pro licenses and raced his Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike in the AMA Pro event held at New Jersey Motorsports Park last weekend.

He fielded bikes for 2014 AMA Pro Supersport Champion Hayden Gillim, Taylor Knapp, Harwell, Curtis Murray, Chris Crosslin and others during his time as a team owner.
