JEREZ, Spain – Jorge Lorenzo set the pace during both free practice sessions on Friday as MotoGP invaded Circuito de Jerez in Spain.
Lorenzo waited until the final seconds of the morning practice to claim the fastest lap, but in the afternoon he grabbed the top spot on the time sheet right away and never gave it up.
Lorenzo’s fastest lap between the two sessions was 1:39.562, besting Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa for the fastest overall lap of the day.
“At the beginning of the second practice I felt better than this morning but with the warmer temperatures it has been difficult to keep the same pace,” Lorenzo said. “We will have to work on the settings to keep the same pace for tomorrow. We need to try to improve our pace by three or four tenths, to ride comfortably in the 39s will be a good feeling. I’m happy that we are first in today’s two sessions but I want more.”
Cal Crutchlow was third fastest overall on Friday, followed by Lorenzo’s teammate Valentino Rossi and Circuit of the Americas winner Marc Marquez.
