MONTEREY, Calif. – Nicky Hayden announced during a press conference today at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca that he won’t be returning to the Ducati MotoGP team in 2014.

Hayden, the 2006 MotoGP champion, joined the Ducati team in 2009 after spending six years with Honda. He has finished no better than third since joining Ducati.

“I’m not coming back to Ducati in MotoGP next year – I’m not really sure what I’m going to do,” Hayden said. “I’ve got some options that are interesting.

“Of course MotoGP is where my heart is, but I’ve got to weigh up the options. Unfortunately results haven’t gone as planned over the years, but it is what it is.”

Hayden has three career MotoGP victories, but none since his 2006 championship season.
