AMA Flat Track motorcycle racer Jethro Halbert, who suffered a traumatic head injury during a crash at California’s Calistoga Half-Mile on Sept. 27 of last year, died Aug. 5. He was 29 years old.
Halbert’s fiancé Ashley Nunes confirmed his death in a Facebook post: “It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you all that Jethro passed away peacefully this evening surrounded by the people that loved him the most.”
A native of Puyallup, Wash., Halbert turned pro in 2002, working his way up the ranks before eventually graduating to the GNC1 class.
Halbert is survived by Nunes, their son Caleb, his parents Willy and Shannon, and brothers Sam, who continues to compete in the AMA Pro Flat Track series, Andy and Zach.
