We celebrated the 100th running of this country’s marquee automobile race and we said goodbye to a once-in-a-generation talent who had captured the hearts of race fans around the world.

The driver many consider to be the best dirt-track racer ever climbed from the cockpit of a sprint car for what he claims was the final time and NASCAR’s most popular driver was forced to the sidelines due to health concerns.

It was another season of triumph and tragedy for motorsports in 2016 as the industry generated countless headlines both on and off the track.
