ATLANTA – SunTrust Banks Inc. has announced that John Hondros has been promoted to managing director of the Sports and Entertainment Specialty Group (SEG), joining the senior leadership team of SEG and managing its Charlotte, N.C., and Daytona Beach, Fla., offices in his new and expanded role.
Hondros helped found SunTrust’s Motorsports division in 2004, building it into a recognized leader serving the financial needs of high net worth individuals within various motorsports genres including NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula One and International Motorsports Ass’n (IMSA). While Motorsports has been a primary emphasis for Hondros, he has expanded his clients to include an assortment of entertainers and professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, PGA and LPGA.
Armed with an intimate understanding of the complex financial challenges of the professional athlete, Hondros successfully provides his clients with a wide range of solutions to achieve financial success, which has been vital to the trusted relationships he has developed.
“Nobody I’ve encountered knows the financial intricacies of the motorsports world and the professional athlete better than John,” said Jeff Dunn, executive vice president and SEG senior lead. “His more than 15 years’ experience, focus on the client and relationship-oriented philosophy qualify him perfectly for this new role. I look forward to the great things he will accomplish for our clients in the years ahead.”
An active member of the community, Hondros currently serves on the board of directors for the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation, which serves children impacted by poverty, illness and neglect; the Greg Biffle Foundation, which raises awareness of animal welfare issues; Brad Keselowski’s Checkered Flag Foundation, which serves first-responder and military families in need; and is the acting secretary for the North Carolina Motorsports Association.
