NEW CASTLE, Ind. — The ninth annual 2012 RoboPong 200 TaG Endurance race will take place on Sunday, Oct. 14 at New Castle Motorsports Park, just 30 minutes east of Indianapolis.
With over 90 karting drivers entered, this promises to be one of the best races ever. They will join drivers from IndyCar including Ed Carpenter, Jay Howard and last year’s winner, Josef Newgarden. The winning team will take home the Dan Wheldon Cup. Dan raced in the majority of races prior to his untimely death in October of 2011.
The RoboPong 200 is a must-attend event for many in Karting. This year’s event features a family atmosphere with plenty to do other than watch the racing. A 65’ Ferris wheel, helicopter rides, and race simulators, with prizes to the fastest times will be available for all those who attend. NCMP has plenty of free spectator viewing areas, AND FREE admission.
What makes this race unique is that it will be 200 laps on a one-mile road course (200 miles) and will feature driver changes and pit stops for fuel and tires. The race will feature teams of two to four drivers, and the race will last approximately 4 hours.
Also new for this year’s event will be two Yamaha races for younger drivers. Yamaha Sportsman Junior is for drivers 8 to 12 years old and Yamaha Junior will have drivers from 12 to 15 years competing for a $5000 grand prize in each. Both classes will run 30 lap races on Sunday morning before the RoboPong 200.
Practice will take place on Saturday (October 13th) from 9:00AM – 1:00PM followed by qualifying.
The green flag for the RoboPong race will be at 12:00 PM (EST) Sunday October 14th, rain or shine, with a total purse of nearly $52,000 in cash and prizes.
