Motorsport Exposition Date In Indiana Changed

ANDERSON, Ind. — Officials with the Great American Motorsport Exposition have moved the event back two weeks from its original date because of a need for more square footage.

The expo was tentatively scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend, but has been rescheduled for Dec. 10-12. The event will still be held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds as originally planned, but it will now be held in the 139,000-square-foot South Pavilion.

SH Racing Teaming With KV For 2011 Indy 500

ATLANTA — While it may be a bit early to think about the Indianapolis 500, one team is already dreaming of glory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2011.

SH Racing will team with KV Racing Technology to field an entry for the 2011 Indianapolis 500. SH Racing unveiled its Team Redline Xtreme livery for its 2011 Indy 500 entry during the National Ass’n of Convenience Stores Show.

The entry will officially be listed as the KV Racing Technology/SH Racing entry and will carry the Team Redline Xtreme colors in the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500. T.J. Humphreys and James Sullivan are the co-owners of SH Racing.

The team will announce a driver at a later date.

Stokes NeSmith Weekly Champ

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Johnny Stokes of Columbus, Miss., has clinched the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Regional championship.

For winning the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region championship, Stokes will receive $1,500 from the point fund and a new GM Performance 604 crate engine.

Chase Edge of Lafayette, Ala., clinched the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region championship last month. He will also receive $1,500 and a new GM Performance 604 crate engine.

At 56, Stokes is the oldest regional champion in the history of the series while Edge, 17, becomes the youngest.

RPM Workshop Releases Dates

MERRILL, Wis. — The RPM Promoters Workshop in Reno, Nev., Dec. 2-4 will feature a number of new presenters, topics and sessions for attendees to take in.

Among those hosting sessions during the three-day event will be IZOD IndyCar Series driver and promoter Davey Hamilton, attorney Kendall Millard, digital media expert Mark Murrell, Speedway Illustrated Publisher Karl Fredrickson, promoter Vicki Emig and many more.

USAC Added To 2011 Gold Cup

CHICO, Calif. — The USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series and the USAC Mopar Western Midget Series will join the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series for the 2011 edition of the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 7-10 and will also feature two California-based series, the Civil War Sprint Car Series and the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Shootout Series.

“We have been working nonstop to put together an exciting venue for the 58th Gold Cup Race of Champions,” said event promoter Alan Handy. “Next year the event will bring a new diversity of championship competition to the fall classic that we feel will bring an exciting new level of competition to Silver Dollar Speedway.”


Racer Of The Week

Canadian modified racer Stewart Friesen earned $50,000 for winning Sunday’s Super DIRTcar Series race at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, N.Y.

It was the 25th victory for Friesen, who became the first Canadian to win the prestigious event, which will celebrate its 40th running next year.

The American Sprint Car Series Patriot Region Awards Banquet will be held Nov. 13 at the Wildwood Country Club in Rush, N.Y…Carlisle Companies has joined Penske Racing as a new associate sponsor of the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series beginning next season…Steve Kuykendall, crew chief of the No. 13 Ford driven by Jennifer Jo Cobb in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, has been fined $5,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31 after NASCAR discovered an illegal carburetor during opening-day inspection at Kansas Speedway Oct. 1…Kenneth Luna, a crew member in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy…Phoenix Int’l Raceway in Avondale, Ariz., has named 3 Amigos Tequila as the official tequila of PIR and the title sponsor of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West finale at the track Nov. 13.
