NEW YORK — Marco Andretti may be doing less Indy car racing this season, but he’s not abandoning the family business of driving race cars.
The third-generation driver has been named to the driver lineup for the Superstar Racing Experience, which will compete at six tracks next summer with all-star drivers racing identically prepared race cars.
Andretti, who won the pole for last year’s Indianapolis 500, is a two-time winner in the NTT IndyCar Series. He is the son of championship Indy car racer and team owner Michael Andretti and the grandson of 1979 Formula One world champion and 1969 Indy 500 winner Mario Andretti.
“I am extremely excited to join the SRX series,” Marco Andretti said. “I look forward to racing against some of the legends of auto racing across multi different series. I am especially excited to go head-to-head with my friend Tony Stewart.”
Stewart, who is a co-owner of the SRX series with Ray Evernham, is among the drivers in the series, which will race at short tracks across the country and air on CBS.
Other drivers committed to the series are Tony Kanaan, Paul Tracy, Bobby Labonte, Willy T. Ribbs, Mark Webber, Bill Elliott, Ernie Francis Jr. and Helio Castroneves.
